May 29, 2008-New York: R. Paniagua, Inc. in association with the NYC Latin Media and Entertainment Commission presents "The AT Tropical Night at the Seaport", the musical extravaganza that launches the National Puerto Rican Day Parade Weekend Festivities. The event scheduled for Thursday, June 5, from 5 to 9 p.m., is free to the public at the South Street Seaport.
This year's theme "3 Rhythms... One Country" features the traditional rhythms of Folkloric, Salsa and Reggaetton, the musical variations of the Puerto Rican musical heritage. Tropical Night, now in its 15th year at the Seaport, celebrates the successes of the Puerto Rican and Latino community in the Tri-State area. The event has become a cornerstone of the Puerto Rican Day Parade Festivities and the highest attended event at the Pier.
"Tropical Night has proven to be a mainstay of New York's Latin culture and a big pre-celebration of the National Puerto Rican Parade. With talented artists and a nigh of full entertainment, New York continues to be the destination for Latin culture," states Carlos Manzano, Executive Director, Latin Media and Entertainment Commission.
"This year's event brings together an array of talent on the Seaport stage and kicks off the weekend activities and sets the tone for the biggest Parade in America," stated event producer Ralph Paniagua, President of R. Paniagua Inc.
NG2 is recognized as one of the top names of salsa's youthful movement. The Puertorican boys of NG2 (which stands for Nueva Generación) bring a sparkling and joyful type of salsa they call salsa jóven (young salsa). NG2's salsa is spiced with deep brass sounds and percussion. Their music is highly danceable, and you won't forget their chorus. Menealo!
Charlie Cruz, will present the Classic Salsa sound. Charlie, a soulful Puerto Rican salsero, was born in the Island and raised in New Jersey. Cruz debuted in the international scene with his album Imagínate. The audience will surely experience a solid musician and a full fledged Salsa experience.
YerbaBuena is a folkloric band led by producer and multi-instrumentalist Andres Levin. The group's dynamic lineup includes vocalists Xiomara Laugart, Cucu Diamantes, and El Chino, percussionist Pedro Martinez, reed player Ron Blake, trumpeter Rashawn Ross, bassist Sebastian Steinberg, drummers Terreon "Tank" Gully and Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez. YerbaBuena will undoubtedly bring the crowd to it's feet.
The Destroyer, Reaggetonero, Xavier, will complete the show. This young star, is extremely popular in Puerto Rico and has appeared on several videos of top performers and has made a tremendous impression on all who have seen him.
The AT Tropical Night at the Seaport will host a VIP party for 500 guests at the Cabana Restaurant at the Seaport. The party features the finest Latino culinary delicacies and tropical rum drinks. The VIP event will join together some of the most important personalities from the New York and Latin American community.
The McDonald's® Bailando Con Sabor Dance Contest will sponsored by McDonald's® features a dance. extravaganza of the 10 best dance teams. A lucky winner in the audience will have an opportunity to win a trip for four to Puerto Rico in American Airlines.
A special "Pioneer Trendsetters" awards will be presented to Polito Vega, the King of Latin Radio for more than 50 years.
Corporate scholarships will be provided to musical prodigies from the NYC area to further their educational goals.
